LMT gets contract for 92 million in 6.5 Creedmoor

I didn't see the 6.5 Creedmoor coming. The .277 Fury I thought was the new one but it seems like the 6.5 Creedmoor is getting some play. Maybe the barrel erosion in the .277 fury was too much. We knew there were drawbacks but maybe they were just a specialist type rifle.

Geissele got the contract for the Sniper version in 6.5CM. LMT got the contract for the Assault version in 6.5cm.

Pretty sure they are still investing heavily in the 6.8x51 for many applications (they are building a 450,000 ft2 building to make 6.8x51 ammo at Lake City facility).

As a former Army logistician it make my head hurt to introduce yet ANOTHER new cartridge to the inventory.

Granted, this is for special forces, but why choose 6.5 over .308 for an intermediate use?

On one hand, I'm glad to see them change to a better cartridge. On the other hand, means the old 223 will become obsolete like the ole 3006 and 30 Carbine
