I am looking for a new trigger for my S&W AR15. I am a big fan of Timney triggers for my 10/22s, they are crisp and hardly have any issues. Are the Timney AR triggers going to be similar to the 10/22 triggers? Or should I go with CMC or another brand? Also, is it really a need to go with a two stage trigger? I am upgrading a good bit of my rifle for a KD Appleseed shoot up to 600 yards. After the trigger upgrade all I'll need to figure out is a good optic for the distance. I have my XLR stock in the mail right now.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

The only triggers I have upgraded to are ALG for regular use and a Geissele SSA in my one precision AR. The SSA is a two stage that breaks at 2.5 and then 2 so I'm not sure if that's as light as you want but you can find them under $200 if you catch them on sale.

geissele SD-E for myself. Same as the SSA-E but with a flat bow. I read more about it being a bit better for precision work so I went with that. compared to my other triggers it sucks. mainly because I now realize how much better it is and I can't afford to upgrade them all. :)

I've never seen a bad review of the Geissele triggers unless someone bought the wrong type for their preferred type of shooting.

I've played with the CMC triggers and if I found one of those for a lower price I'd have no issues having one of those. I had the ALG in my 308 before I put the SD-E in it, and it's a fine trigger for all around use, the SD-E I think will be all over it for precision/distance work.

There's a reason they won the US Spec Ops contract....fantastic triggers!

Thank you

The last KD I went to I used my DPMS carbine with the stock trigger that I polished myself and did fine. I qualified actual distance with it using an Aimpoint red dot. While aids to help marksmanship are fine, it is better to focus on the fundamentals; don't over think it.

Unless your existing trigger is really terrible you should be fine with what you've got. I would definitely stay away from target triggers with very light pulls unless this is just going to be a range rifle. I think you should avoid these triggers in a "go to" rifle.

Remember this is supposed to be fighting rifle, not a bench rest rifle.

I plan on going to the KD as well, I'll see you there!
