So I'm a bit new to the M1A would and acquired an M1A scout not too long ago. I'm really interested in getting a can for it but the muzzle brake on it now looks very proprietary and the front sight is integrated into it. My question is does any one know what manufacturers make muzzle brakes that might offer a QD option like a SilencerCo Specwar or is the only real option a direct thread? I've also heard the gas blowback is quite intense and wanted to know if anyone had maybe an adjustable gas plug or regulator they could recommend. Thanks to all in advance!

The garand and m1a use a long stroke piston and don't like to be over gassed. It tends to bend the op rod. Not sure what the thread pattern is but just about every company makes their muzzle devices in a million thread pitches. Old off, new rocksett in place.

Am I going to end up losing the front sight post though?

Sorry to contradict Twitch2120 but the M1A is a short stroke piston.
The M1 uses an op rod which as stated can be bent if wrong ammo is used.

M1A / M14 is a short piston . Scout uses a standard M1A gas system (whereas the Socom uses a different system).

Yes Scout brake is special but only because it's a brake versus M14 flash hider. I changed my Scout brake to a standard Flash hider recently if doing that only you need an alignment tool as brake or FH use a castle nut to secure to barrel versus direct threading.
Look on M14 forum

Check out thins video. Everything you need to know.

Is the thread pitch the same as a standard AR-10 5/8x24? I'm hoping it is as it would make my options far great than if it has a proprietary thread pitch
