Man charged with Terror of The People

So, many may have heard of the shooting at the Walmart in Lumberton NC yesterday.
The perp is wanted on charges as follows:
Burden is wanted for first-degree murder, discharge of a firearm within an enclosed space to incite fear, and going armed to the terror of the people, the sheriff’s office said

Going Armed To The Terror of The People.
When did this become a Law?
And it could easily apply to any social situation where one frightens the general public.
Does anyone know this law and how it applies in general

I think that North Carolina's law on
"going armed to the terror of the people"
might be an issue if you like to sling a long gun across your chest, while wearing body armor, and stomp your tactical boots through grocery stores your local Walmart and fast food joints.

A quiet and well behaved person simply carrying a holstered handgun should not be a problem.

My info is out of date but this law was incorrectly cited many times as a threat to arrest people for open carrying a handgun, which was legal. Anyway, not a new thing in NC and even the police seemed to be confused about it there.

It's legal, unless "the people" are "terrified". Maybe?
