Anyone around here got an opinion? (Nah, not a chance... that's what I thought.)

I've been comparing shotguns & need some help deciding. If you had pretty much decided to get a Mossberg 500-series pump action shotgun to use for home defense -- probably with an 18" (or less) barrel for maneuverability -- any thoughts as to which model you'd prefer to get, and why?

As a person of simplicity, the 500 or 590 tactical will do you well. It's more a matter of whether you want the ghost ring sight and parkerized finish vs a blued shotgun. A buttstock is a must. The magazine fed pump is something I never understood. Loading tubes is rather easy to train on.

I have a Mossberg 590 and a couple of Remington 870's set up for home defense (even though I'd probably grab a rifle if I'm that close to the safe) and each has an 18 inch barrel and the Hogue short LOP stock, a sling, and a flashlight mount.
Each one works the same as the others as far as I can tell.
I've owned a couple of pistol grip shotguns and they never seemed practical for what I wanted them to do.
