Hello fellow ODT'ers.

I am starting this thread to document what will hopefully be my last foray into NFA/BATFE Tax Stamp items.

It all started when I saw an add in the for sale section of ODT for an aftermarket Brownells Glock slide (G17) with an RMR mounted on it. The slide was stripped except for the channel liner, but did have basic Glock sights on it.

Here is the tread that got me started on my project:

I knew that this slide would not have a permanent home. Because there was not an extra frame laying around mi casa. So in trying to figure out how to find a permanent home (frame) for it to sit on. Along comes this post in the Steals and Deals section.

With discount, $59 shipped for a complete 3rd gen G22 frame was a deal too good to pass up. So I ordered it and hope to pick it up - kind of - from Dobbs Defense (DD), who is doing the in state transfer, within the next week.

Which takes me back to my first visit to Dobbs Defense. A couple weeks ago I had them engrave a few aftermarket Glock barrels that did not have the chambering stamped on them. Note to others - I strongly suggest spending a few extra $$ if necessary to purchase replacement barrels that have the chambering/caliber visible when installed in a gun.

Anyway, while at DD picking up my barrels. Brian tells me about an In-House service they offer. For $125, they will complete all your BATFE Form 1 paperwork/requirements and engrave your BATFE required information on a gun, receiver, frame, etc. All this is done in their shop - literally a one stop shop :) That is another deal too good to pass up. So as soon as the frame comes in I will have them do the engraving, and send off my Form 1 and related info. Then take possession of the frame as soon as its engraved.

Now before anyone posts, "But you can't configure it as an SBR till you get your Form 1 returned approved" - YES, I know that. It will not be configured as an SBR till I have the approved paperwork in hand.

So that is where I am. Lets see how this project progresses over the next year or so. And when I say a year or so, most of you know I am not being dramatic. BATFE Form 1/4 approval times seem to be running around 10 months (+\-) as I type this.

Regards,

Rob

Yes - 17 slides fit G22 frames - or at least I hope they do or this is a big...Ooopss moment. (They do. I already had the subject line slide on another G22 frame :) )

Ultimately I see this Glock going into a RONI carbine chassis - the one with the folding stock. Initially it will be set up something like this.

Edited to add. With this being a G22 frame, and the frame being the SBR registered part, it will be an easy matter to switch between 9mm, .40. and .357 SIG by simply switching barrels, slides, ejectors - trigger housings, and magazines around. Then there is always the option of getting a .22 conversion kit and using that on the frame.....the more I think about this project the more I am excited about it.

The biggest challenge will be finding a RONI shell at a price I want to pay. I have seen some older gen 2 (RONI) shells on sale for a little under $300. But that has been the lowest I have found them for.
