Need some rifle caliber recommendations

Question to all my hunting buddies out there. Looking for a Remington 700 B/ADL for deer / hog hunting. Need caliber recommendations. Thinking .270 or .308 but open to opinions. Ammo availability and recoil is high on the comparable list. Distance will range from 100-600yds.

Will target shoot as well with it.

Both Are Great Calibers.
It comes down to personal preference.
308 has more bullet weight options.
270 Shoots a bit flatter.

Anyone own all 3 calibers ? Which one recoils the least ?

06 is a bad ass old round, but it's got more recoil than a 308.

Well you've picked probably the two most available with the possible exception of a .30-06. I can't stand rifle recoil yet handguns don't bother me in the least and shotguns don't really bother me either. Anyway... I actually think my .270's recoil is not very 'enjoyable' for target shooting. The most pleasant shooting deer cartridges 've shot are a .243, .25-06, and .260. Neither of those would be as readily availabe on the shelf as what you mention but all have some pretty significant downrange capabilities without beating you up. My longest shot on a deer was 335yds with the .25-06. No problem. I'd personally never shoot a deer beyond that (I actually didn't realize it was that far at the time and wouldn't have taken it as I had forgotten a tree I ranged and thought I was taking a 250 yard shot).

I personally love the 30-06. Have hunted with 270 also and don't have anything bad to say just like the 06 better. Never hunted with 308

Here is a quick way to estimate recoil. Simply compare the ft/lbs of energy data from the rounds you are considering. Of course rifle weight, stock fit, etc will influence felt recoil, but this method is great for comparing rounds to each other, all other variables being equal.

I'd consider the .260 and 7mm-08 as well. Both are based off of the .308 Winchester and provide plenty of wallop for medium sized game.
