Howdy. Joined the forums a couple years ago and then life got in the way. Circling back to this now and wanting to build a small collection. I've fired handguns at a range and shot some sporting clays but I didn't grow up around pew pews. I have a piece of property in Ellijay (North GA) and it's not uncommon to hear a neighbor shooting.

I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the terminology and nomenclature but I want to dive in. I've been shopping for gun safes (RSCs really 30-40 gun in sizing) but trying to narrow down what I want in it too. I'm frugal but generally subscribe to buy once, cry once... I'm not afraid to drop some coin on this new collection. No interest in concealed carry at this time.

Initial thinking is a couple handguns, couple long guns and a shotgun. Interested in everything y'all have to share.

Since you say you're unfamiliar with terminology. What has captured your interest? I would assume a form of media or entertainment? List out some stuff you've seen and from where, and someone more than likely can fill in the gaps.

It’s your collection so you will gravitate towards something eventually. Buyer beware and do your homework! A modern mass produced firearm may be available at big box store for $600 but can be obtained for $450 with a little research and window shopping (I know this is vague but you will understand after while) …I’d advise on not lusting towards the “latest and greatest” as the market will loose its honeymoon phase with those type of items and better deals will be had after while (typically). Stay away from brand new niche calibers as only a select few will obtain a mainstream following. If you are gonna get geared up on one for a specific hunting use that’s appreciated and understandable however they will most likely just empty your wallet on ridiculous ammo costs.. The classics are fun because they are economical to shoot 22lr, 9mm, 38 spc, 45 acp, 223/556, .308, 20 gauge, 12 gauge (this is a short list any MANY more calibers are readily available) you’ll figure out what you jive on and welcome to the addiction!

The best advice i can give a beginner is spend money on stuff that makes organization easy. get a shelf for the ammo cans for the ammo and some totes for magazines.

A neat handgun is an H&R 999 its a 10 shot 22lr thats top break

It's a 9 shot but you're spot on with neat gun that can last a lifetime speaking from experience.
