I have a Smith/Wesson V series pistol 38 special and I can’t find Mfg date /Serial number on Butt V 255694 / number under cylinder 4049 ! Got from my uncle in great shape I don’t think he ever fired it! Any info appreciated! Ron

You have a WWII-production Smith & Wesson Victory Model revolver.

Your serial number should fall into 1942-1943 time frame.

You can see on the butt, between the "V" and the beginning of the numerals, where someone filled in the hole for the lanyard ring.
