Possible Nazi Germany war medal

That’s a good sign as they were two separate pieces. Also the paint appears to be slightly bubbling on the swastika which is consistent with an iron core. DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN IT!
Do you know if

Do you know if your Grandfather served in the military during WW2?
He was my grandma's second husband and really don't know whole about his past. I don't think he was in the war.

I’m by no means an expert but I collected German/Nazi militaria many years ago and it looks from the pics that you have a genuine Iron Cross. Congrats as that is a nice medal.

You may want to contact https://www.gettysburgmuseumofhistory.com/ as these guys are experts and would be able to give you a value. They deal in some very high end historical items and are trustworthy.
