I have been looking at the Ruger Hawkeye and the Bergara HMR Wilderness as a possible acquisition here coming up. I like the traditional look of the Ruger however, the accuracy of the Bergara is well known and I have seen in action. Both guns have stout actions but I tend to favor the Ruger one myself. So it's toss up as to which one I would like to add to my collection. I guess what I am getting at is if you had the option of either gun which would you go with and why?

At the moment? You're more likely to have to do a warranty return on the Hawkeye.

And I say that as a moderately devoted Ruger owner.

I’ll put good money that the Bergara will shoot rings around the Ruger.

The Bergara takes Remington 700 stocks/chassis, scope mounts, and triggers, so it has more aftermarket support than any other bolt action centerfire rifle.

When I was looking for a new elk rifle a couple years ago, Bergara was the first company I looked at. I didn’t buy one because they didn’t have the caliber I wanted.

That solves that equation! Thank you guys for the input.

I hate that they dropped .280AI from their lineup. All of my Bergaras are stupid accurate and reliable.

I wanted a .280AI, and Bergara was the first company I looked at. I ended up buying the Weatherby 307 XP Range instead.
I have been looking at the Weather XP Range as well. It's a toss up between that or the Bergara. How is the accuracy with the Weatherby?
I like everything about the Weatherby but it's hard to beat the Bergara in accuracy. My friend has a Bergara 6.5 PRC in a aftermarket chassis and it is unreal accurate. It hits the mark at stupid long range.

Here’s a 100yd group on my first range outing with my Weatherby XP Range. 5 rounds of 160grn Nosler Accubond hunting ammo.

Later, I shot and doped the rifle every 100yds to 1,000yds.
