Scammers be ware

Dang, that’s happening everywhere.
I was waiting in line renting a U-Haul on Old National Highway and the guy in front of me was complaining that he booked a hooker online and got scammed for a deposit.

Site name....errr...so we can verify the scam!

Same ol’ story.

Someone does a search on the internet and finds an item they want on the ODT.

Joins up, and responds openly to the listing with their phone number.

Scammer texts/calls the number, pretends to be the seller, and asks for a deposit.

Buyer sends a perfect stranger a deposit to hold the item.

I had a situation on the VWVortex site. I posted a response to some rims listed in the Atlanta area. I then got an email from someone saying to contact the seller at different email address. Suspecting a scam, I contacted the person anyway. I was then asked to send a deposit if I wanted them as he has so many others interested, mind you they had been listed for several months. I told him to go ahead and sell to the other interested parties. People can be such jerks. I reported them and got one of them booted from the site.

That’s the proper way to handle it.
