Original boxes? As you know, a "like new" pistol in original box can command 10-15% or more to selling price. It just seems like shady advertising to me. I would like your opinions on these current GB listings. Both appear to me to be "write overs" over the original serial numbers on the box. Python is listed as "original numbered box". The 686 Smith says "comes with original box".

In my opinion, neither are original boxes. If they were selling the boxes as not original but correct for the period, additional value can be added. However, trying to push them as original, nah would not do business with the guy, unless the prices was much lower. E-bay selling labels for S&W boxes, making it easier to rip off the unknowing. It is not only the box, grips are constantly said to be original to the gun. However when the gun was made, the grips were not even available.

It pays to educate. Good info on the labels on eBay , I was completely ignorant to that one.

I saw that you can buy empty boxes on eBay so, I would say for sure not real. Although the person may have purchased the empty box, they probably did it knowing they could ask more for their Pistola.

I personally don't pay much attention to the box but, rather the Pistol itself. The box is just an extra and if the box looks too perfect then it more than likely a fake anyway. Just My 2 cents.

I have a box that has no label at all on it....hasn't had one since I bought it. Prob fell off from the original owner who I purchased the pistol from . I've had it for some 25+ years....

Does the box you own have the description of the gun on one end and nothing on the other? Or is it blank on both ends? If it is blank on both ends, S&W used to return items sent to them in "blanks". Boxes with nothing on either end of the box.
