Shotgun recommendation

Benelli, Browning, Beretta, Remington are all good shotguns. For the money, find a nice older Remington 1100 or 1187. Well within your budget. I do like Mossberg, great shotgun for the money. However I've never owned the auto. But I'd try a 930 in a second. My pump 500 has been a great gun for more than 40yrs. But it may be because it's an older one. Never a problem. Fired well over 1k rounds.
I've probably shot that many out of my 1100 as well. Get the magnum receiver. Then he can shoot everything. One issue with the 1100 is, you're supposed to change barrels for mag loads vs field loads. The field barrel has 2 gas ports. The mag barrel has 1 to operate the action. The 1187 is supposed to shoot the shells interchangeably. The Browning A5 has to reverse the rings as I understand. Get a screw in choke barrel. Get the Brileys and have at it. Some models do come with briley chokes. You get any one of these set up right, it'll be good for a lifetime
