I took a barter on this Sig Sauer SHR 970 .30-06 a couple of years ago because it seemed like a cool gun, and I didn't have a 30-06. Was told it was a rare gun and was limited ran. I've always been curious of what the gun was actually worth or are they an uncommon gun for a reason? Wanting to understand what I bartered for, to know more about it. I searched this forum and found no mention of this rifle. Google seems to claim its rare, but curious to others who are familiar with it say?

They aren’t especially common, but they also aren’t bringing in big bucks. There is one in .308 on Gunbroker right now with a high bid of $775 with no reserve.

SIG imported a small number of the Swiss Hunting Rifles (SHR). They quickly sold and SIG didn’t import any more of them. They got that name because they were made in Switzerland.

Sig Sauer traditionally hasn’t been a big player in the hunting firearms market in the US. They don’t import a whole lot of the type of guns that we typically hunt with, but are much more popular with hunters in Europe.

It’s a great rifle with some nice features; DBM, short 65 degree bolt throw, very fast locktime, unique bedding system, European walnut stock, etc. The barrels are hammer-forged, which makes for an accurate and long wearing barrel. The Ilaflon coating is ceramic based and supposed to be very corrosion resistant and long wearing.
