I used to go to Star iron and metal near downtown Atl. I liked that place because I could walk through their piles and pick stuff I might need for whatever build I was working on. Now they are closed.

is there any place still like it around? I see lots of metal recyclers, but not one that is sort of junkyard-ish that you can walk around in and browse.

any suggestions appreciated.

They're still around. Might have to call and ask around but I know many of the places have sections of stuff you can buy for a set price. Besides, scrap prices are down and the places aren't making as much due to that and the expanded laws so I doubt they'll turn down money.

Elliot passed a few years ago, his son sold it, that property is worth big $$$ now. Go to Mid South Supply on Bankhead, its 10x better than Star, they sell new stuff too. My dad used to take me there on saturdays when I was a kid, I'd steal cans of spray paint and paint my initials in the train cars they have. If you see MCA painted in green, that was me......22ish years ago.....
