I bought a Star Super B 9mm Para off Gunbroker. It was advertised as high quality gun and a great shooter. When I received it I noticed a hole in the slide just above and parallel to the firing pin. With a little googling I found out this is for a loaded chamber indicator. I believe without this part the gun is unsafe to fire as there is a channel about the same diameter as a #20 drill bit from the breach face to the rear of the slide. In case of a ruptured case or a pierced primer the shooter would get a face full of hot gas and powder residue. The seller has refused to refund all my money (shipping and FFL fees) so I am probably going to have to keep the gun. I can't find a part anywhere. I have checked several parts dealers and posted on several forums with no luck. My thought was as a temporary fix was to put something in the hole to replace the missing part. It wouldn't function as a lci but it would block the gasses if necessary. The original part is held captive in the channel by the rear sight encroaching into the channel and fitting into a notch on the lci. My plan was to use a correct sized drill bit and cut off the shank and grind the notch in it but I have had some people say hell no and others saying to just file a nail to the correct size and use that. Does anyone here have an opinion on whether this is a way to get the gun back in service or should I just use it for a paperweight until maybe one day I can find the correct part. I have included an internet picture of the missing part.

Thanks. I would just feel better with something in that hole and can't figure why that would be a problem and was just wondering if i'm missing something. I saw those parts pistol but if I bought one guess what part would be missing. Someone suggested I contact J&G Sales and see if they would pull that part and sell just that to me. If you ever see one for sale I suggest you buy it as it is a part that they say breaks often.

I think that a nail will work fine---you could fit it snug to the hole and solder it in place, with the head acting as a retaining cap from the inside of the slide.

Or tap the hole and stake a set screw into it.

Tap the hole and cut off a screw of the correct thread and make a plug, then tiny weld on top of the plug. I just plugged some scope mount holes in a mauser receiver that way, wasn't hard or time consuming.

(Like Hayata I sometimes buy broke stuff for the sake of a project )

I really wouldn't start hacking the gun about. There's ways to plug it without doing anything irreversible and destroying most of the value.
