Got a new to me Stevens M30 22lr. Its a great little shooter that my grandson will be gifted 1 day. Most everything I shoot nowadays is suppressed and this being a 22llr falling block it would make one heck of a quiet shooter, I think. Just not sure if there is enough meat in front of the sight to have threaded. Even moving the sight back and cutting a new dovetail would be OK with me.

Looks like you only need to thread a section that is back .43" from the muzzle.

Got that much space plus enough left over to keep the dovetail slot for the front sight well supported and stable?

If you envision shooting this gun with a suppressor most of the time, maybe you might want to trim it back to around 16.5" inches so that when you screw that 6" or 7 inch long suppressor on the end, the overall length will still be reasonable.

Barrel diameter is the question. As long as there's enough meat on it I can thread it and recut a dovetail behind the threads to move the front sight back a little.

Barrel length is 19-1/4" roughly measured from the receiver face.

As long as the barrel has a diameter of at least .625", it can be threaded to 1/2" x 28. Thread length should be at least equal to the thread diameter.

Since you have a 19.25" barrel, there are multiple ways to go.

If the barrel has the diameter needed, and is long enough in front of the front sight, it can be threaded right there.

The barrel could be chopped off behind the existing front sight, threaded, and a new dovetail cut to reinstall the front sight.

Are you sure the sights are tall enough to be visible over the top of your suppressor? If not, you'd need taller sights, or mount up an optic.

Thanks all for the info. I'll take some more measurements, including sight height, and see if I want to move forward.
