Hello... I was just given a short little 410 ga. single shot break barrel from the 1930s. It's mechanically sound but not pretty at all, just a shooter. The stock is broken on both sides of where it comes up around the gun under the release lever. I was able to open the cracks enough to force glue in there and clamped it, it looks good now.
I don't think the cracked sides bear any tension when the stock is mounted, but still I'm wondering if this is only going to crack again. Because of where the cracks are there's no way to dowel them except to drill in from the outside where they will be totally visible. As this has no cosmetic value & is just a shoot-around gun, I don't mind doing that if it's necessary. Do you all think it's advisable to drill in & glue dowels through these repairs?
