A 21-year-old Winterville man reported on Saturday that three days earlier he sold an Xbox to someone he met at McDonald’s on Atlanta Highway who paid for the item with three counterfeit $100 bills, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The meeting had been arranged through the LetGo smartphone app, police said.
The victim said he realized that he’d been fleeced when he noted that the bills all had the same serial number and lacked government watermarks and security strips, and also had Chinese writing on the back, according to police.
He provided police with the name of a possible suspect.
