Crime there is pretty low, and while the salary isn't great, there's nothing to spend it on anyway.

They do have some crime down there. While it would be relatively easy to hide a body, the population is small enough that anyone who went missing would be noted pretty quickly.

There's another police gig in St. Helena, off the coast of Venezuela. They aren't paying very much either. But, you get to live on St. Helena

A few years ago I was offered a contract ATC job on Ascension Island but turned it down as there is nothing to do but sit around and wait for a few military aircraft to land or depart during the week.

These days, that looks like a mighty fine job to me. They have Starlink now.

Compared to a posting at Stanley (or up in the hills at Mount Pleasant "International" Airport) Ascension really would be like the Big City.
