I've always been an aviation junkie, and I have the "Flightradar24" flight tracking app on my phone. Last night the missus and I were walking the dog and I saw a very large jet flying over. At the time it was making a noticeable turn towards the northeast at 36,000 feet. The flight app indicated it was a Boeing 777 flying from Orlando to Chicago (not sure why such a large jet was used for that route but anyway). I put my phone back in my pocket and we finished our walk.
When we got back I took my phone out of my pocket and noticed that the flight was diverted to Atlanta. Screenshot below. I'm guessing that the turn to the northeast was to get it in line for the normal northeast approach back to Atlanta. At the time I didn't think about it but in retrospect, I could have swore that I saw a contrail out of the left engine but not the right. This seems out of the ordinary and I was anticipating hearing something on the news about an emergency landing but nope. Does anyone know what may have happened? Just curious.
