I'm usually the one to remind everyone that Veteran's Day is for the Living, and Memorial Day for the Lost and Fallen, but...
This was my Great Grandfather who served in the Philippines Insurrection, chased Pancho Villa, and went to fight the "Ulans" somewhere in France for WWI. (I had to have the original watercolor of him restored, hence the "before and after". The story of the gouged out left eye will be left for another day).
I remember the day I found these medals, and others, in a cardboard box wrapped with dried out rubber bands. My first word when I saw "1899" was "OH (expletive)!" I'd thought these were long lost.
