Video: The US Navy's Smartest Idea of WW2

They did a beautiful job restoring this recovered SBD:

There is a restored Douglas Dauntless at CAF Peachtree City that I keep thinking I want to ride in. Flown in a AT-6 Texan, Ford Tri-Motor and a DC-3.

Their P-51 ride is quite expensive, but the Dauntless isn't too bad so maybe one day I'll do it.

Imma gonna give the Brits some credit with the development of the P51. Putting a Merlin Engine in the P51 made it a even more of a friggin Nazi killer.

If I remember right, I read somewhere that the RAF and North American both had the same basic idea of replacing the Allison with the Merlin. Don't know for certain on dates, so perhaps the British were first.

I guess, if the double Wasp doesn't fit, you just have to make do with the Merlin. ;)

I have also seen that debated. I don't know the actual outcome.

It could be a a pissing content though. The eventual outcome was the right one. :)
