Cabela's is running 10 percent off firearms and ammo for Cabela's club members right now. Plus I get a 5 percent military discount. They had a Colt Government Model 1911 show up on their website today and the serial number indicated it was made in 1926. I called and ask them to pull it to the back, then drove to the store.

The gun in question was in nice shape, so i decided to get it. I'll have to do a closer inspection to see if it's been reblued. I was waiting in the Gun Library for two other people to check out when a reflection in a gun case caught my eye. Low and behold it was a Colt Custom Government 1911 in 38 Super. It caught my eye because it was bright stainless steel. It had everything with it (inner/outer box, two mags, documentation) and was made in 2008.

Well; damn. That's how I walked out with two 1911's and having to add a new caliber to my ammo inventory.

I saw that Colt at Cabela's a few days ago. Congrats on your purchase. It looked like a nice gun.

Thanks. I field stripped it last night. Haven't cleaned it yet. Everything is appropriate to the 1926 period of Colt 1911's per coolgunsite.com. I don't believe it's been reblued. If it has, doesn't really bother me.

G marked frame for Gov contract.
S marked barrel indicating someone replaced the original barrel.
Serial number under firing pin retainer plate matches the frame SN.
VP stamp on the left trigger guard.
51 on the right side of the trigger guard and under the back of the slide.
Grips are wood, but have the wrong row count to be original.

I bumped the slide stop, safety, hammer, MSH, recoil spring plug & guide and grip safety against the images in coolgunsite.com and they appear date appropriate. There's almost no bluing loss on those parts

The frame feed ramp is blued/parkerized, which is correct I believe. Aside from the barrel, pistol appear all original. I need to pull the MSH and trigger to get a look at them more closely.

It's not a perfect collectors gun, but good enough for me. Please come in if you have more insight.
