What to do when the lights go out

We are not. Most do not have any provisions that do not require refrigeration. Look at the reaction when there's a pending winder storm. The shelves are cleared of everything fresh that requires refrigeration, not canned goods and raw ingredients.

The US has the same capabilities. It's threat of mutual attack. Just another "nuke" in the arsenal.

Ironic that this thread is here. Had this conversation last night with the wife.... Have a wood stove oil lamps plenty of can goods. Could last about a year with what supplies we have now. Longer after harvesting garden and have our own "farm" already. Chickens pond for fish. So I'm pretty well set.

It's super interesting that you said "blasted into the stone age", as a result of merely losing power. You might be right though, there would be a good portion of people that would de-evolve and pretty much operate on primal instincts. So discouraging.

We've seen many times the thin veneer that is our civilized society. It's not devolving, it's simply doing what they need to do to survive. I've seen you say you don't have any sort of preps, and those that dont would be forced to survive in a situation without power (or any situation for that matter). Discouraging? Yes. Surprising? No.

Depending on the duration of the outage it could easily set the clock back 100 years. So many of the people have forgot the skills our grand parents knew. Survival would prove to be hard on many people who rely so heavily on the grid.
