Which vocational trade skill has the best short and long term prospects?

Have a family member who was recently laid off from an office bookkeeping job. He has a four year college degree (business). He's thinking about going to a vocational school to learn a trade skill.

Was hoping to hear from ODT members with thoughts on which trades have the best short and long term prospects. And any feedback on the good and bads of specific trades.

Spoke to a septic guy once. He owned one truck in a small county in Middle GA. He said he got sneared at a good bit, but he set his own hours, and made a good bit of money "because nobody wants to deal with their own crap - folks are happy to pay." fwiw
