Whitetail neck shot?

I've always heard that if you are confident enough, a neck shot is great.


My question is does anyone have experience with this what is the experience..

Also.. Is it a certain area is the neck?

If it is situational.. When and when would it not be advised?

Take the shot that you 'know' you're capable of taking ....... ! with that said spinal cord hit is a 'switch' and jugular hit they will not get five yards .....

If they are within 30 or so yards I always do a neck shot. Never had one go anywhere with a neck shot. Waste very little meat with a neck shot.

It usually works great, but it is possible to miss everything that's vital, especially with bigger Northern deer. I prefer a shot to the heart/lungs.

Neck shots are usually close range shots under 50 yards. The deer usually drop right there will little movement.
I have taken several that way with no lost meat. If you have thr time to aim the take it but if your trying to hit a moving target go for the ole reliable heart shot. It is not a one size fits all situation

Neck shot usually equals droppin like a sack of doorknobs.

I shot one in the chest earlier, ended up going right through the heart but man did it make a mess of the ribs that it cut through first. Next time that I have one coming head on at me I may go for the neck.

Neck shots on the last 8 deer I've shot, 70 yards out to 420 yards, all dead right there.
