Our 2024 Turkey season went off with a bang that "shook the ground" according to my boy last Saturday evening. We spent hours in the woods from October thru April, enjoying all of the wild things - deer, turkey, squirrel, owl, birds, fish, bobcat, and snake. In January and February we saw two...
I'm gonna share. As mentioned loooong weekend - started with a car crash and ended with a downed tree blocking our exit after our hunt. Murphy was all over us like stink on a monkey Fri-Sun this weekend. But I will share the hunt tonight or tomorrow. 👍
One thing my boy and I do is bring a contractor 3 mil trash bag with us when we fish. And as we make our way along we put trash in the bag. If half the people fishing did this we would see a lot less trash.
Looooong weekend. Loooong turkey season. Finally found success this evening. Thank God my boy was with me. I held off on a Tom twice this season as my boy was in school. Finally worked in our favor today.
UPDATE: adding more pics to show date and time, bird head, and my pride and joy (my...
Good season so far. No meat in the freezer to show for it, but this pic alone for me makes it all worthwhile. My boy laid back one morning. He says sometimes he closes his eyes to fine tune his hearing ... I said then you can hear your snores that much better? :) I will take every second...
Louisiana hopefully will follow Mississippi, Montana, New York, Oregon, South Dakota, Vermont, and Washington - states that have placed Constituional protections ABOVE Yhe Open Fields Doctrine. In fact, every state should have this protection in place - and ultimately The Open Fields Doctrine...
Definitely agree that hens are tendin'. The large rafters we have been watching have dwindled significantly. Whereas we watched one rafter of 31 and another rafter of 37, we now see maybe 5-7 hens together, a few Jake's and maybe one Tom, then a tom solo here and there. Last Sunday we heard 3...
@rbstern one consideration if you have a problem down the road and you don't have a 100% shot, hold. Don't give away your position or alert the predator that you are on to it. Better to hold off and wait for the 100% shot.
Another consideration is setting up a decoy (live) bird where you have...
@Smoothrj did ya sling shot him out of the tree at that point?!?! Only thing missing was the paper unrolling out of muzzle with BANG printed on it! Man, time for different box for sure.
I can see this. Like, someone doesn't pay to enter a fishing tournament, day if they catch what they believe to be a placing or winning fish, then ask to join, but only because they believe they have a payoff.
I would be in support of a minimum 2 day you pay to join, 2 days pass, then you can...
I don't know how scoring was done in previous years, or how bird will be scored this year, but my input:
- 1 bird for scoring. If you harvest 2 birds, submit 1 of the 2 birds.
- Beard length, or lengths if double beard, start tape measure at 1 inch (not the end of the measure)
- Spur length...
I plan on taking only 1 gobbler if given the opportunity, be it public or private land. We sure enjoy the hunt, calling in the Tom, and eating wild turkey, but we don't want to kill more than 1 between the 2 of us. I feel like for every 1 turkey we see, we see dozens of deer. So our mindset...
I am good with scoring 1 bird only.
Not to sound ignorant (this is my first challenge) but why would public land be worth 2 points just because it is public land?
Again not trying to start a turf war here. See what I did there? ;)
