I’ve been looking for a better .223 powder, but have a lot of 4895 for my .308 loading. Anybody ever use it for .223? I have a good bit of 62gr hpbt and fmj that I would like to load up. I have found data for it, but it looks like it is better with heavier bullets.

I have used IMR4895 in 223 Rem with 52gr SMK & 62gr Varmint bullets with great success in my bolt guns. Rem 700 HB & Sako HB. You will probably need to work up a load that your gun likes.

Another thumbs up here. I use IMR 4895 for 223 with 55gr FMJ plinkers. You might give up a little fps vs. a faster powder, but it burns completely and has never been anything other than reliable and accurate in semi-auto platforms for my loads. I stopped experimenting with other powders for 223 once I settled on 4895.

Nice. I’ll get to work. I really like it in .308 so if so get as good of results with .223, I’ll make the most out of this 8lbs.
