Item Description: I have a Springfield rifle that was left to me by my brother who passed away. He was an avid relic hunter and Civil war collector for as long as I can remember. I dont know anything about firearms like this so I tried to research it. 1839 is on it as well as U.S. markings. Original flintlock that was converted to percussion for war use. Looks to be in dang good shape to me. I priced it on the low end of others I looked at like it. I welcome any comments from those of you more familiar with these guns. would rather sell, but will trade as long as it favors me. Thanks, Wes and please call or text offers or questions to 4043239412.

Here is some info from a ODTer with knowledge of these firearms:
Just thought I'd give you some info on your musket privately. You have a Model 1816 US Flintlock musket, Type III. They were made from 1831-44. More of this musket were converted to percussion than any other, as yours is. The barrel should be 42 inches long, although judging by the photo, yours appears shorter. For a more complete description, borrow a copy of "Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms", and look for item 9A-195. He also lists values. Your musket is valued at "Good - $600 to Fine - $900" If it was still a flintlock the values would be $2500 - $7000.
Hope this helps.
Pete
