I have to ship a rifle back to the manufacturer. Anyone know how to pack it up? I have a box it will fit in, but no idea what to do to `secure` it. Do I need to go buy a roll of foam?

Yea I would if I were you... UPS seems to drop kick everything they ship me I get it with added tape in place of where there was cardboard.
Gun socks like they sell at most sporting goods stores will keep it from getting scratched up etc and cost about $5. I would place it in a sock before filling in the empty space adding foam or whatever.
Gunsock, wrapped in lots of bubble wrap and filled in with styro peanuts, 4-6 inches deep on all sides
UPS is very rough on boxes. I had one come back that I had sent to Mag n port and it was beat to pieces.
If you have two boxes, put one inside the other.
If you have two boxes, put one inside the other.
Not sure what type of rifle you are shipping, but sometimes disassembling the rifle into smaller parts makes the entire package more compact and easier to protect with padding. Not to mention that it doesn't scream "GUN!!!".
