Be sure to make your way to the "fence" there is a well defined line where the DR stops and Haiti begins. Don't step over the line or you will get AIDS.

There is beautiful grass and greenery, a fence, then **** dirt and scum.

DR is great, and Nonliberal is spot on about the difference and the fence.
It's very strange.
I'm planning a trip to the Mt's of Belize soon, I hope I dont have the same experience as you!

Just on the other side of the port was the worst area I saw.
