I've got a 10/22, no complaints and I like it alot, but if want a real .22 get a Marlin 39A lever action and you'll not want any other, one you'll keep forever in the family.
Simple, push a tape measure as for down the barrel as you can get it, when it hits the bolt face thats the lenght of the barrel. Thats how the ATF measures.
The new Remington/Marlins serial #'s start with the letters MR , the difference in quality will jump out in your face, Remingtons are JUNK, I have one and will not sell it to anyone due to it being junk and un-repairable their warranty service sucks.
One thing you need to think about, islands are nice but they tend to attrack snakes (water mocassons), especially at night. Most people don't realize it but rattlesnakes swim too and both will be attracked to a campfire.
I got an old 10-22 ruger rifle that I've owned about 40 years and its in very good shape. Bought it new has pertty walnut stock and all metal and metal butt plate to, better than the new ones I see at walmart now, shoots perfect. Been thinking about trading but dont know what it might be worth...
On a S/S firearm the inlay will not standout UNLESS the stamping or engraving is wider and deeper. Its definetly a Blue Steel item, just my opinion from 1st hand experience. I've had great success with liguid gold leaf, small .75 oz bottle, it can be purchased at Lowes and it will not wash off...
Sounds like he's ( Bloomer ) a major conspiritor to a crime which is punishable under our legal system, outside of the New York City, city limits he has no enforcement powers so maybe someone will press charges against him and his criminal subjects.
