  2. Item Gone! FS Finnish Mosin Nagant M91/30

Man, she's a real beauty! Won't last long at that price -GLWS. Edit: and she didn't. :)
  3. What's your favorite milsurp trigger?

Oh yeah, I hear the Swiss rifles are top-notch. As I understand it both are highly regarded for accuracy in the vintage rifle circuits.
  4. What's your favorite milsurp trigger?

I agree, the M96 rifles have great triggers. Gotta love the 6.5 too. From what I currently own my Springfield 1903 is my favorite, followed by a Finn capture 91/30. The break always surprises me on that one, no stop whatsoever but super smooth throughout the pull.

  6. Bubba killed a nice one.

Is that black paint on the barrel band? That's enough to make me cry. I cringe to thing what they did to the sling estucheons under that paint. The arshins being marked out on the left side of the sight base is a pretty good indication that the Finns got their hands on it. Were meters stamped...
  7. what are some cheap and fun surplus rifles?

Not exactly cheap ($300-500) but the Swedish mausers are regarded as being very accurate. The 6.5x55mm is still a pretty popular and flat-shooting round.

You're definitely in the right place for info on that site. The exact formulas for what the Finns used on their rifles has never been determined and remains a subject of much debate. If the finish is very glossy, similar to a polyurethane or Russian lacquer, it's almost certainly not original...
  9. THANKS for the Help C & R Guys!

Gotcha, it may just be the pics, they look like they have that polyurethane sheen. A clear coat over the wood would not be correct for the rifle, however. The pine tar mix finish tends to be pretty matte, but cameras play tricks at times. A sure way to tell if it was sanded is to look for an...
  10. THANKS for the Help C & R Guys!

Great looking rifle, and a lucky find. I've still yet to stumble across an m28 in person, or add one to the collection, and it should shoot very well if the rifling's in good shape. Let us know how she shoots when you get her out to the range! And not to take away from what is a fine purchase...

Good luck - sounds like a great find.

Also, forgot to mention that many of the early Finn Mosins have bore diameters that slug around .308 and may not be safe for shooting modern surplus. However, a "D" stamp on the barrel shank means that the rifle was rechambered for .310-.311 and is safe for shooting modern 7.62x54r.

Your ballpark is correct, depending on condition and variation. Tikka vs. Sig may affect price, ski trooper models are highly desirable.
  14. Obrez anyone? Suggestions?

Could always play up the zombie angle:
