Since you did say "need" I would go with that ruger 10/22. You can put a lot of food on the table in bad times and if you have to use it for defense it hurts when shot by one.

Exactly!! I have one that's worth 15-16 and one that's worth 25-30. Check the serial# and find out what year it is. After that,, prices depend on the condition and whether it is in the box etc. There will be so many on there that if you are honest with yourself you can nail it down pretty close.
