A lot of folks find them around dead poplars. Thos right there come from a shady creek banks under privet hedge. Every year that spot produces within a week of April 10.
I found a nice patch of yellow morels yesterday in my usual spot. It's like clockwork this time of year. Sautéed some in fresh raw milk butter last night with a little garlic.....fantastic
I'm still manning the kitchen for the next few weeks while my wife is down. Last night I cooked us some deer cubed steak, homeade biscuits, homeade mashed potatoes, home canned green beans, and gravy made with fresh jersey milk. Talk about a good meal to end the day with!
I cooked some 33 day aged deer chops last night. I like to keep these really simple. Season with salt, pepper, and dried rosemary. Pan seared in cast iron with butter. Couple minutes on each side and keep the butter basted on the top side. They went excellent with some smashed potatoes!!!
Those come out of virgina. Good salt kiss to them, some were really plump and some were just ok. The pretty plump ones went back on ice to be served raw. The others made the baked stack. My wife drowns them with enough garlic butter and cheese to juice them back up!
