I've used a Coleman 2-burner propane for years (and Coleman white gas stoves for decades before that). Works okay, but built to a price.
Check out the Camp Chef Everest or Everest 2X. They seem to be a bit higher quality...
Yep. Have family and friends out there. Some of my friends spent time in South Louisiana and were prepped with generators, but this surprised even them. Said it was like riding out Katrina.
I was surprised to learn that in the U.S., there is the East Grid, the West Grid, and the Texas Grid...
Not just mine...I ended up programming about 40 Baofengs for a club and ran into this problem. Thankfully, I figured out what was happening and was able to find enough radios with the same firmware to recover (happened to about half of them). Well, all but one...
The weird thing is that these...
Main ARRL Field Day is the 4th weekend of June each year. Clubs and individuals all over will have camps and vehicles set up with radios & backup power solutions. Gwinnett Amateur Radio Society is usually set up in a county park. Typically have to go to individual radio club websites to find...
Not quite so simple. If the radios have different firmware, you'll likely brick the one you're uploading to. Need to first D/L the memories from the radio you want to program, cut and paste the memories from your file, then upload to the new radio.
Don't ask me how I know... [emoji21]

It was easy-peasy for me. Already had a gas fire starter in the firebox, so just hooked up to that for my natural gas source. As another poster said, ventless aren't very realistic-looking, but they put off a *lot* of heat. My house is about 2400 square ft & 24" logs heat it almost too well...
I put ventless gas logs in my fireplace about 15 years ago. It will heat the whole house when we have power outages.

This may have already been posted, but if not, I find it extremely interesting. Especially the chemistry of how this virus attacks the body.
Shows why traditional therapies (and ventilators) might not necessarily be the best treatments...
Truckers still use them, as well as a few hobbyists. Some off-road trail riding clubs also still use them, as they provide more range than your typical Walmart bubble-pack GMRS radios.

Sorry...ham speak. HF is High Frequency. Basically 1.8 mhz through 28 mhz. Typically single sideband, rather than AM or FM. HF bounces off the Earth's ionosphere (i.e. "skip"), offering extremely long range communications.
HF will also follow the Earth's curvature to some degree (ground...
As many others have stated, range will be limited, no matter what the GMRS handheld package states. 20 miles? 30 miles? No way, no how. In using my mobile ham radio on VHF (145 mHz), I've been able to talk as far as 6 miles point-to-point, but that's using 25 watt mobile rigs and we were...
I've read the book (One Man's Wilderness) and seen the 3 documentaries multiple times. Awesome story and Bob Swerer did an outstanding job of editing the miles of 8mm video that Proenneke shot over the years. A must see/read.
I like the steel NATO cans. Self venting while pouring and they do NOT leak! Best quality and price I've found is from here:

If you get some, buy a few spouts. They have mounting hardware to mount them to the can's carry handle.
These are nothing like...
Not a problem. If you have an old laptop battery pack, you can harvest 6 18650 cells from them. Be careful to not short them out, however. They will explode if shorted out.
That said, even a dying laptop battery pack will usually have 2-3 good cells in it. I use an Xstar VC2 charger that...
I only watch it for the stupid (and obviously unscripted) blunders. There ain't a lick of sense between the whole lot of them. Lol!
