In my opinion there is very little if any difference. Primitive skills may be a catch all phrasing that encompasses both terms.
Example. If you learn flint napping you can make a knife in a "survival" situation (but its better to carry a good knife)

I've tried it. It looks easier than it is but it does work on some locks
The shape of the key will tell you how easy it is and some types of locks are just not gonna pick

I do NOT like the U shaped side entry zip door on the Eno bug fly but I love the width of a double nest sized hammock. I used a Mosquito Traveler for years and I never had any complaints
