  1. Long term food storage

Yes, that has given me a good seal. Try to get as much air out of the bag as possible and put an O2 absorber in it. My wife has sealed some with two iron seals instead of one. One has been good, squeeze the bag after you seal it and if the seal is not good air will escape. Just run another seal...
  2. Long term food storage

I use a steam iron set on low and iron the bag with the edge of a 1x under it.
  3. Biggest and Most Common Blunders Made by Preppers

Not observing OPSEC. Your neighbors will kill you to feed their kids. Don't let them know what you've got.
  4. I got a bad feeling about what is coming down the road.

Roe v Wade decision, mid terms, Dems don't have a viable candidate for POTUS, inflation, food scarcity and high prices, energy costs through the roof, wars and rumors of wars, the southern border is WFO, etc.... What could go wrong?
  5. Long term food storage

The freeze dried foods are expensive and scarce right now. Don't wait, beans and rice in mylar and buckets and canned goods. Get what you can while you can.
  6. SHTF in metro suburbs

Power disruption due EMP or lightning strike or maybe just overload from a hot summer. No lights and the roaches will come out. In three days the stores are empty and people are hungry. If you live within a tank of gas of Atlanta, you are the new supply person. Gonna "bug out"? Better have a...
  7. How many HAM radio operators here?

Ham is a very good skill. It is not secure, but it will still be going when the cell phones aren't.
  8. BOB and EDC?

Here is a glossary of terms that migth be of interest: http://www.survivalblog.com/glossary.html
  9. To all you wolverines-

This thread needs to be flagged "where the rubber meets the road". Good stuff. Get out BEFORE the long brown hits the whirling blades if you can, as in today. I drive one hour each way to work and hope and pray I can get out and home in time. But knowing that home is there and the big city is...
  10. Vittles

Gas prices are going up, up, up. Dear Leader doesn't care, he is chasing the magic energy source that has not yet been developed. As gas rises, food costs will also rise. Start laying in some food. Pack some rice and beans in mylar bags and buckets. Go to Sam's and get some canned chicken, tuna...
  11. Don't lose focus-

Don't put too much stock in "stuff". Develop skills and a plan. Remember, if you don't have anyplace to go to, you are a refugee. Get the basic weapons you need and plenty of ammo. You can't eat either of those so get a food plan together. Live in the city? You better have a country relative...
  12. surviving the long hall.

Hall, haul. Makes no difference. We know what he meant. But, what would you do if you had to go down that hall in the picture to get to the exit or your family? Be ready to survive the long haul but know how to work the long hall.
  13. What will cause the collapse and why

As soon as the money for the welfare checks, section 8 housing, free cell phones, heating assistance, unemployment, etc. runs out the "entitled" will go crazy. We will have to call a national emergency, suspend the constitution and enact martial law for the protection of the sheeple by the...
  14. Are you going to be physically able to survive?

While you still can, get dental check ups, physical and eye exams. If you need the dental work or medical procedure, "git 'er done". Get some spare glasses. Being in good shape and good health will pay dividends untold when the long brown hits the whirling blades.
  15. Survivalist or Refugee

Bug in is good. Especially if you are in a good location. But it is not impossible even if you are in a less than ideal location. I, too, look to get home. Not only is it where the heart is, it is where my preps are. I think it better to stay put than just "heading for the hills". Thinking about...
  16. Survivalist or Refugee

You will need more than a way to get there, you must have a place to go. The only safe place will be one in which you have the necessary security, water, food, shelter- and a way to replenish those supplies. A lot of folks are going to "head to the hills". Hunting and foraging is a a full time...
  17. New SHTF discussion

Having the gear is a part of it. Having the skills is the bigger part. The folks that think they will just take what they need will be piles of corpses on the borders of the areas that prepared people occupy. If you don't have a plan and a place to go, you are what is called a refugee. Refugees...
  18. SHTF Knife

Got a Tabor survival knife I would go to.
  19. Prepper or survivalist?

Don't focus on just getting beans, bandaids and bullets. Know what to do with the gear or what to if you don't have the gear. Get out in the woods and live for a few days out of your BOB. If you just buy gear, you are a prepper. If you know how to use it or make do without it, you are a survivalist.
