  1. AIRSOFT GUNS FOR PRACTICE?

I got an airsoft to teach the kids some stuff in the back yard. I highly recommend it. Get a decent one and they're accurate enough. Not close to you but the guys at SS Airsoft by me were a big help. If you have to order online, at least you'd be able to talk to a human if you have questions...
  2. Woodworking Materials

As mentioned, cabinet maker or Highland Hardware in Atlanta. Also, look for a lumber supplier other than HD or Lowes. Sometimes they have something in stock or will know where to get it. I think Suwanee Lumber Co has some fancier stuff. I know they have hardwood veneered plywood that would...
  3. Wood putty?

I'm dumb. I forgot, with a wood floor you do use a wood filler before staining You can use a premade filler or stuff made from saw dust. It stains darker than the wood though. Usually you put your nail holes in the grain, which is darker, so it blends in.
  4. Wood putty?

Short answer is "no". Nothing non-wood will stain like wood. Not exactly anyway. Long answer on how to fill the holes depends on what you're filling. - For something like a wood floor, you'd stain it and then putty fill to match the stained color. - For something like a gun stock (I have less...
  5. Any "garden pond" specialist on here?

I have had a 300 gal horse trough fish pond for 7 years. I'm still a complete amateur. My water is pea soup green right now. I get an algae bloom every year. - For a 2 trough system, I recommend keeping them at the same level and using a syphon tube to connect them. Pumps and fittings fail. They...
  6. Need ODts Advice on Camper Travel Trailer Options

FYI, a travel trailer usually refers to a bumper tow RV. A 5th wheel is a 5th wheel. 1. That's out of the range I deal with but Forest River is a huge manufacturer with a few different lines. We've always liked the Wildwood and Salem models. Keystone Cougar is a good one too though. Dealers are...
  7. looking for camper advice

Great points. Definitely do plenty of research on weight and towing in general if you're not familiar. It's not tough to learn but there is a lot to it. Also, ignore what the RV dealer tells you. Pretty much every RV salesman I talked to (a lot) was terrible. Do your own homework. On the rental...
  8. looking for camper advice

Agreed. The RV we just sold was 7yrs old. There were a bunch of things on the verge of crapping out.
  9. looking for camper advice

I'm on my second camper. First one was bought new in 2014. Current one was bought new this year. Many family trips in many different states. Worth it? If you use it, hell yeah. We did the math and the cost of ownership for an RV is more than what it would cost to just do hotel rooms. That would...
  10. Pinewood Derby Cars

Oh wow, those are some cool cars!
  11. Pinewood Derby Cars

How much you want for it? Every pack is different, they can set their own rules. We won first last year in the pack but didn't get an invite for any regional race. Maybe it got Covid canceled. We were second overall the year before. That is awesome your Dad did that. I've helped other kids...
  12. Pinewood Derby Cars

Beat me to it on that video link. It's excellent. We did all that except the canted axels. We just made it a straight runner because we run on a really old wood track. Our pack rules require 4 wheels on the track also.
  13. Pinewood Derby Cars

Here's my practice car to play with the kid's cars. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
  14. Pinewood Derby Cars

Made this for my wife to use on our little practice track. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
  15. Pinewood Derby Cars

My son's pack just settled on plans for this year's pinewood derby. I'll be making a bunch of cars again as I help my kids and the neighborhood kids. Thought it'd be cool to hear pinewood stories and share tips. My son had a really slow car the first year and he was very disappointed. Both of...
  16. Hard Times Tokens

Yeah, I picked up a couple on ebay. There's a coin shop in Lawrenceville I used to go to. The old man there usually had a few in the corner of his shop. I got most of them there.
  17. Woodworking help needed

What Samjo said. If it's very slight, it may be only you that notices. I just tested my factory made barstools. One of them has a wobble and two of them are loose so I bet they wobble after I tighten them up. That's the curse of learning carpentry, you start noticing crap that never bothered...
  18. Hard Times Tokens

Anyone have any hard times or civil war tokens? I only have a few and don't know a ton about them but I think they're pretty interesting. If you don't know, things got rough a couple times in history so businesses would mint their own coins to do business with. The words on this coin have a...
  19. Baseball/Football cards

I have a couple big binders full of cards from the 80's. I just stored them away and plan on showing the grandkids one day. They'll say "ooooh, ahhh, cool" for maybe 3 minutes (30years from now), lol. Every kid in the 80's had binders of those cards. My Dad had many boxes from when he was a kid...
  20. Need some brilliant ideas!

Of the basement shops I've seen, no two are alike. I'd say just take what you have and figure out what works best for what you do. My "shop" is very much a work in progress in my garage. It's currently full of my wife's crap, again, so my only suggestion would be to put a lock on the space...
