  1. How to sell my reloading stuff

Opened powders are probably best for fertilizing your garden. Unopened powder I’d look at 75% of new. For the equipment and dies I’d look at 50% of current retail. Maybe the bullets at 50% too if there is a decent quantity of each type, less if there is just a handful. For the brass I’d look at...
  2. Dillon 550 Reloading Setup?

Any suggestions on a tumbler for cleaning the brass? Vibratory vs. rotary? Best media? ETA: Space is a consideration, as is quiet. I'm not as concerned about getting it done quickly.
  3. Dillon 550 Reloading Setup?

Thanks for the offer, but I just placed an order form some missing small parts and a 45 Colt conversion. I’ve had them before and never found them to work that much better for me. Perhaps it’s because I’m not pushing for a huge rate of production, but the ball is better for me.
  4. Dillon 550 Reloading Setup?

    Thanks!
  5. Dillon 550 Reloading Setup?

Good point, but I’ve never had a problem with moisture. None of my tools have ever has a rust problem. It’s a basement garage with thick block and brick exterior walls and living space behind and above.
  6. Dillon 550 Reloading Setup?

Thanks for the offer, but I don’t anticipate reloading for either of those calibers anytime soon.
  7. Dillon 550 Reloading Setup?

What are the good aftermarket accessories for a Dillon 550? I'm getting back into the reloading game and found a used but not abused 550. As my one-car garage serves as an everything space, I can't afford a dedicated area, so I've set it up to mount to the t-tracks that I have installed on my...
  8. Lee Classic Reloader???

I got my start with one, reloading 45-70 when I was in college. I think they work great, and are a fantastic way to get your start in reloading - you really get to see what is going on at every point in the process.
  9. Dillon 550 question

I miss my 550b.  Then again, I'm not shooting enough to warrant buying another one. Perhaps one day.... IMHO if you're just reloading those rifle calibers, you're probably not reloading enough to make a progressive worth the hassle. Even if I had my 550 set up I'd use a...
  10. Is reloading really worth it?

Depends on what calibers you shoot, how much you shoot, how you value your time, and what quality ammo you want. Shoot a couple of hundred rounds of 9mm a year? Not worth it. Shoot 2K a year? Probably worth it. Is your time pretty cheap? It's probably worth it. Don't have much time to...
  11. .451 230gr fmj-rn .45 colt

You could probably use them for 'plinking' weight loads (with Chuckdog's suggestions), but I wouldn't use them for heavier loads or expect great accuracy. Honestly I think trading them would be your best bet.
  12. Reloading Questions

Depends on what you're reloading. If you're loading 9mm and .223, you can get the bulk stuff pretty cheaply, so I don't reload those calibers. .45 Colt and .32 Mag - I get some real savings. When I was reloading for my 45-70, those were some huge savings.
  13. Dillon RL550 press, anyone use this?

Great presses. I've had two of them and sold them when I needed money, but intend to get another one at some point... IMHO it's not the best if you only need to put together 100 rounds of rifle ammo, or are testing loads, but great if you're in production mode and need to do several hundred...
  14. Degrading Powder?

I call BS too. It would have been *all* over the place if this was happening.
  15. Advice on getting started reloading?

+1 to all of this. For me, neither 9mm or .223 make any sense to reload. For my .32 Mag, .45 colt, and rifle ammo it makes complete sense. The best way to start is *slowly* to get used to what is going on at each stage. Once you've done it for a while, them move up to progressive for your...
  16. How much will I save???

Honestly, I don't think you'll save that much in reloading the common calibers like 9mm & .223. You *would* have the ability to tailor your loads to exactly what *you* want if that matters to you. IMHO the big savings comes with reloading for less common calibers like .45 Colt or .32 Mag, or...
  17. Is there a difference in Die Manufactures?

IMHO it depends on how tight money is. If it's a bit tight, use the Lee and save money. If you're flush, buy the Dillon. Of course, you should probably try the Lee dies first - it will just cost you some time. If you have problems, then by all means get rid of them. If they work fine, don't...
  18. 6.8 loading question?

I wasn't thinking of the case length so much but the overall length - how deeply the bullet is seated in the case. Depending on how the rifle is chambered it could have a long throat - the length between the end of the case and where the rifling starts. If the bullet is seated deep into the...
  19. 6.8 loading question?

Have you looked at the overall length? If the lengths are significantly different that could have a huge impact.
