  1. One for you (lawnmower) engine guys?

Sweet! Love an easy fix- whether it's intentional or not.
  2. One for you (lawnmower) engine guys?

Try cranking it with the gas cap off or loose and see if it runs for longer- sounds like it's being starved for gas. The bowl on the carb is probably filling up while it's not running and that's all the gas it has to burn, until the bowl fills back up again. Any chance the coat hanger fishing...
  3. Rehabbing 95 f150

Now that is a good piece of information- I didn't know that about the back flow preventer on the filter. I'd always used Fram in the past, but recently bought a Motorcraft at the last oil change because they were on the shelf and the PH2 that I was looking for was sold out. I should probably...
  4. Rehabbing 95 f150

Ok- I got a good laugh out of "AK tolerances" :) Thankfully, mine doesn't sound that bad. I've been saving money since about 175K miles for the rebuild. I've got the money for a new engine when that day comes. And my taxes will still be less than $50 a year.
  5. Rehabbing 95 f150

I get a little rod knock on a cold start, but other than that, mine is still running great. The engine sounds perfectly fine after those first couple seconds.
  6. Rehabbing 95 f150

heck... I drive a '97 F150 everyday and it's sitting at around 205K miles and counting. I will definitely be looking for a new motor before I'm looking for a new truck. Somehow used trucks have turned to gold- I haven't seen any that I thought were worth the money. Looking forward to...
  7. Mercedes guru's help

I have zero first hand experience with Mercedes... however, I did pop a couple of fuses in a Saturn once when we tried to jump start it. Of course, we also changed the battery right after, so it could have been either. Check fuses and maybe fusable links (if Mercedes even has those)
  8. my truck is misfiring

And possibly the air filter. A couple years ago Mom was having rough idle problems with her car. I pulled the air filter and looked like it had been dipped in mud and leaves. She apparently had no idea about it and the guys at the Quick Lube oil change place had never said anything about...
  9. Look what the junk ferry left me...

Don't know about the keep or crush thing yet- depends on how much harness is melted and how much splicing has to be done. And even with that done, there's no guarantee that's the only problem. On the up side, looks like at least $200 worth of wheels on it.
  10. Who knows old cars?

I know one old guy that lives up near Road Atlanta who has restored several Galaxy 500s... Someone asked him why once and he said that he liked the cars and didn't have to worry about anyone trying to buy it off him. He also had a chrome bumper Stingray that everyone hounded him about selling.
  11. Crap! Damn! &$@$!!!

Well, crap. That really throws a wrench into it- which I'm sure you've been wrestling with the same thing for awhile now. I'd say I would think about it, but I'm sure I wouldn't come up with anything that you haven't already. Only thing I can think of is there's something wrong with the...
  12. Crap! Damn! &$@$!!!

Well, so much for that. I'd probably pull the head (or heads) before I completely removed the engine just to see what the cylinder walls look like. Or if possible remove the oil pan and have a look at the lower end. Don't know really- Never worked on a tractor, but I've rebuilt several V6s...
  13. Crap! Damn! &$@$!!!

You sure the 'good' engine wasn't mounted to a transmission that's in gear? (Sorry- hoping for a simple fix)
  14. Daily Driver Porn!

Dang... my 17 year old bone stock Ford truck should stay out of this thread. I will say it was cheap :)
  15. Need info about EMP resistant vehicles.

Let's assume there has been a catastrophic solar event or other emp source... do you really want to be driving the one working vehicle (or at least one of the few working vehicles) in the area?
  16. no more side mirriors on new cars?

One more thing to add to the base price... and one more thing to break later on down the road. What ever happened to "keep it simple?"
  17. What to purchase boat or motorcycle

Personally, I've been looking at boats because I need something big and heavy that I have to move around the yard when I cut grass. I think it's more fun to look than buy!
  18. I enjoy auto maintenance.

While I don't use synthetic oil any more, I do change it and the filter about every 2,000 miles. People can call me crazy- my last vehicle got sold with 196,000 miles on it and the motor still sounded perfect. My current one has 180,000 and still sounds great too. I don't know if it's so...
  19. Ford F250 Electrial Problems *Need Help*

I've got a 1997 F150. I'd get a wiring diagram (probably search for one online) and see if the wipers/window washer/blower happen to run through the same connector. It kind of sounds like you have a bad ground or a wire(s) have gotten chafed.
  20. Poll: clean, rice, hood?

Looks nice as is- but it also looks like it cost about 60% of what I spent on my house... Currently, I'm loving my paid-for 15 year old truck. Go ahead and park right next to me- one swing of my door will crush in a quarter panel if necessary.
