Yes it is fine to do. Worst thing more likely to happen is a little more wear on the extension. I wouldn't slap a 10,000 round bolt into a fresh rifle is what I'm sayin.

Forster has 5.56 gauges that are 1.4636 plus .0003 minus zero on the go gage and 1.4736 plus zero minus .0003 on the no-go gauge.
