IMHO I'd tell her to come get her dog, or to give you signed document that releases all of her rights. This could turn into a very expensive mess if she has deep pockets. It may be the best dog in the world, but there are lots of good dogs in shelters getting put down every day.

You can convert a pistol into a rifle and then back to a pistol - that is completely legal. Look at the T/C contender and encore format.
What you *cannot* do is convert a rifle into a pistol without filing the paperwork to make it a SBR or AOW.

It's perfectly legal to convert a pistol into a rifle, and then back again. It must start as a pistol, though. Just make sure you never mount the short barrel at the same time as the stock.
