    Who shoots long range?

    Generally speaking with decent ammo, own everything to 600, repeatable at 800 and takes some skill for 1k. A 16" .308 is an 800yd gun.

    While not always the most desirable quality, the NRA offers insurance for ranges that require 100% NRA membership. Sometimes it's the only way a place could afford insurance.

    So are you looking for rifles advice, shooting tips, etc? There's more to shooting at distance than just having a larger caliber rifle.

    Look at GADPA, GeorgiaIPSC and Atlanta 3 gun for Atlanta area stuff. There really isn't a calendar of these events.

    For a 1911,the standard start is loaded with the safety on. There may be a stage every now and then that starts unloaded, but definitely practice drawing and disengaging the safety.

    The season is pretty much over for 3 gun, and the next match won't be until January. There's a club starting at South River Gun Club for 2014, that'll be a monthly event and the only formalized one I know of thus far. Creekside Firing Range has had them, but I don't know if anyone is...

    First shot timer

    Find where you're at, set realistic goals and develop a training program around your realistic goals. Beware of just trying to beat a timer and go for broke; but execute perfect repetitions.

  20. Self-Defense Accuracy?

    Closed fist size groups inside of 10 yards; open hand out to about 25 yards. Figure your static range accuracy will about double in size during a dynamic incident; thus you want to be shooting as well as you can to account for the "Oh S***" factor.
