Bluing won't preserve it but if you like that appearance, go ahead. To preserve bare steel I use wax or a preservative oil such as Birchwood Casey Barricade.
The marking is just a simple CASE, no "tail" on the "C".
Handle material may be celluloid but I can't find any reference to this color.
There is no wrapping on the handle.
A widow found this in her husband's desk. It's a 4" blade and is 8 1/2" overall. I think it is a common pattern but the handle is unusual. It's a multi-color plastic (?) material. The knife isn't in great condition as you can see and the handle has a crack in it. The only marking is CASE...
I know nothing about primitive knives but a friend gave this to me. The blade is shiny black and napped like an arrow point. Is it flint? The handle looks like deer antler. Thanks.
