  1. Muzzle loaders... not the kind for hunting

When I started typing the post, my autofill suggested "blackpowder cannon" from a precious search. A Mountain howitzer has been a pipedream. I googled and saw some enfields for sale, both original and repro. Just don't know which repros are good. My buddy shot a deer with his muskatoon and...
  2. Muzzle loaders... not the kind for hunting

I've been thinking about a muzzle loader. I always liked the Hwken because of Jeremiah Johnson so I've considered them, but a friend had a repro 1853 enfield cavalry carbine that was 58 cal. It was pretty cool and he'd load the occasional 500gr/ 100gr. Powder and it was like an artillery piece...
  3. Century/MKE AP5

When I bought my zenith import mke, I put 1,000 round through it in a weekend before filing my form 1. I had 1 ftf at around 250 rounds The receiver had a cosmoline like gunk inside. I sprayed it with brake cleaner, wipe out the gunk and oiled it and fired another 750 or so without issue. It...
  4. Early Warning Device For A Ruger PC Charger

Does it still work if you only depress the bulb twice? Does this count as an angled foregrip?
  5. 357 magnum 6" barrel VS 45 ACP/AARP in a 1911 full size.

Plenty of info on shooting 45 super in a mk23 unmodified and some info on 460 Rowland in a mk23. I think 45 super might be a better comparison for a 357mag. Looks like 357 18pgr 140pfps/784 ftlbs vs. 45super 186grain at 1300fps/694 ft lbs. 45acp+p 185gr at 592 ftlbs. Numbers wise the 357...
  6. What's your go to lube

Walmart syntec 5w20 is cheap and works like any top gun oil I've used. I mean is keep engines clean. How many cycles does a piston do in 5,000 miles? I had chatgpt do the basic math: So, approximately 77,146,350 revolutions would occur in 5,000 miles with a 4.10 gear ratio at an average of...
  7. Ready for the pin and weld...

Does the brake add 5.5" or is it 5.5" long? The threads of the barrel will recess the brake around .7". So be sure it reaches 16" before bothering.
  8. One and Done Hunting Rifle

9.3x62 would be the clambering amd right now, I'd buy it in a sauer 100. The round WILL take anything in the world, has already don't so, can be loaded from 232gr. Norma soft points at 2700fps to 320gr woodleigh solids at 2200fps. With 250gr or 296 gr Barnes, it will drop cape Buffalo with a...
  9. Winchester Wins Contract for Next Gen Squad Weapon Ammo

So Winchester will do the production for whatever the final round is to be? I wonder what this does to SIG's prospects for the 277 fury? For those that don't know, the round is doing around 3k from a 16" barrel with a 130 to 150 grain bullet. Super high pressures in a bimetal cartridge case.
  10. Punt Gun, anyone ever shot one of these?

There are stories from back in the day of commercial hunting for ducks where the punt guns were mounted in duck boats and several would be on the water at once. They would take hundreds of ducks in a day.
  11. What is the ultimate rifleman's rifle? In skilled hands...

For me, it's an HK G3. It is the first modular platform to allow easy stock changes and scope mounting. It is capable of accurate target engagement to decent range, has great irons sights for close range to 400m. The .22LR sub caliber kit works excellent and can hang with the best semi auto .22...
  12. Replacement turret caps??

You could look at kenton industries and see if they have a replacement. https://kentonindustries.com
  13. What is this sniper accessory called???

    McCann rail https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/mccann-mirs-rail-on-a-rem-m24.77607/
  14. Dream rifles?

Parker Hale M85 sniper was for a long time. Second has been an SSG69 P1.
  15. How to pick a muzzle for a .308?

I'll second the little bastard. I shot Jared's 300WM when he was developing it and the reduction was down to .243 recoil. But get a can. Quiet, reduced recoil, maybe boosted velocity and better accuracy. Only downsides are weight and length.
  16. Any HK fans?

I'm just not interested on plastic long arms. Seems they should have been able to do better with the re-release and make it easier to add a nation mag well, install a flash hider and get rid of the thumb hole. Basically make it more G36.
  17. Remington M24!!

From what I'm seeing there is some suggestion that it's built by AMU. At least the reference of "built by the same guys that have been building th for 30 years". I know the m40 series have been built by USMC PWS for some time, but I'm not positive if the Army builds their own or has them built...
  18. Remington M24!!

And a marine thus a precursor to the m40 not an m24.
  19. Remington M24!!

The M40 had Redfield and the m40a1 had the Unertl (USMC rifles). The m24 used a DDRoss mount and rings and leupold 3.5-10×40 m3 for quite some time.
  20. Remington M24!!
