Its the chamber size. There is nothing wrong with it per se, its a tight target chamber. This is common in target grade 22 pistols. That is where I have seen it and experienced it several times. When fired, the gun cycles fine, but a loaded round is very difficult to extract.
Another vote for Nelson conversion. Not the cheapest option but will be perfect match for that PSA build. My Nelson is the most accurate pistol I own and has never let me down.
for wood grips in the mid to upper range, I like Ahrends grips http://ahrendsgripsusa.com/1911.htm Not a huge variety, but Very nicely made. They usually have some in stock and sell on Ebay as well.
On the upper end is also Esmarelda http://www.esmeralda.cc/latest_grips_added.htm Never had any...
Of those two, RIA.
Add $100 and get a Ruger for stainless or STI Spartan in Carbon. (the STI is VERY under rated IMO). It uses Armscor parts, but they are very well fit.
If they use the same supplier for the frames and slides that they use for the Dan Wesson line, and keep the price down where it needs to be, I think it will give the Springer MilSpec a real run for its money. Out of the box it looks to be a slightly truer copy of an original A1, and will also...
Thanks LockRod,
I did the front strap checkering. Yes its the original slide with some work done to it with the milling machine. The grips are VZ with Ruger medallions from Ebay that I inlayed.
Here are a couple of my Ruger projects.
A great little 3 screw Single Six that I picked up at a pawn shop in pretty sorry shape, so I re finished it. ( its moved on to another ODT'er, but its one of those guns I still regret selling)
And a SR 1911 that I did a ton of work to just for fun.
I like Wilson parts, but just a reminder, Wilson beavertails use a proprietary radius on the frame. If you want to use one, you will need their jig to re contour the frame. If this is your first build, I would recommend sticking with a safety designed for the .250" radius. There are plenty to...
You guys got a good deal! they are already out of stock on the carbon steel frames (still have stainless). IF all the holes are drilled straight and IN SPEC, that's a great price for a forged frame. I want to cast another vote for the STI slides from Brownells. I just used one in a build and it...
If you want a railed gun, the Colt is $100 outside your budget. At $1100 new, you should be able to find a used one for less. That would be my first choice. I owned one for a while, it was an outstanding pistol. Ive never owned a Sig 1911, buddy of mine had one, I would say it was on par with...
Any Gold Cup built after 1983 will be a series 80 gun. The only "series 70" built since then are the "re issues", and they have not re introduced a series 70 Gold Cup as of yet.
Colt 1911s built between 1970 and 1983 were called Series 70 (actually referring to the collet style barrel bushing)...
Thanks Chris. We would like to make some of the AHGR matches this year, but will definitely be at SRGC. Looking forward to seeing your ESP build as well!
Mike, I did a TON or reading on ramped VS conventional barrels in 1911s. What I found was that the ramped barrels came into vogue in 38sup, 9mm and 40SW primarily due to case support issues with the conventional barrel chamber. If not done exactly right, they can cause feed issues due to the...
Thanks.
RRD, Ive thought about the Aluminum grip safety, and I want to avoid taking any weight off the front of the gun if possible. Its well under weight (43oz with empty mag) with the wood grips, but the VZs bring it over by .2 so Ill just focus on the grips I think. Its a "exact fit" (used...
Nice work! I really like the look of Nitre blued small parts. I have fire blued grip screws for a similar look, but its tricky to get it just right. Would the heat generated during the process affect the temper of the slide? Not sure how hot it gets. Anyway, looks great!
Thanks again guys.
Mike, the magwell is a Dawson precision aluminum so it hardly weighs anything. I'll figure something out. Those VZ grips are heavy! Could probably hollow them out to find my .2oz!!
