Just talked to @Wolf'n he's pretty sure they are 20mm Lathi cartridges.
  2. Need help identifying ammo from 1888. Pics inside

A bit more research has me thinking its, 11x58r Werndl. This page has a diagram with measurements https://www.armedconflicts.com/11x58R-Werndl-t25496
  3. Need help identifying ammo from 1888. Pics inside

A quick Google translation shows the box says "20 Live Cartridges Manufactured in the artillery depot for h.83 cases 7 Primers" It did not catch the stamped words, only the printed ones. I think I have one of those smaller rounds at the house. I looked it up once, but will have to look when I...
  4. School me on the Martini Henry

Nope, I got had at the Atlana Expo Center, brought it home and got concerned when I opened it up and saw crappy machining marks. That was a couple of years ago, and the last gun show I went to about a month ago that same seller had another one. Also I shouldn't have generalized about the 303's...
  5. School me on the Martini Henry

Sorry I'm posting so much, but here's a good couple of vids from IV8888 on martinis https://www.youtube.com/user/Iraqveteran8888/search?query=martini
  6. School me on the Martini Henry

also be careful with the "Gahendra" and "Francotte" Martini's. They were of a lesser quality (some people say they are unsafe to shoot) as far as I can remember.
  7. School me on the Martini Henry

Looks fair. I cant remember what I bought my snider for, but I'm pretty sure it was close. The only down side is that you can't pick through them to get the one that you want.
  8. School me on the Martini Henry

It can be made though. This guy is the man for obsolete calibers
  9. School me on the Martini Henry

Thanks for this thread by the way... Now i'm all jazzed about getting another rifle to restore from them.
  10. School me on the Martini Henry

be careful if you find one of the .303 British caliber ones, very likely a fake (I fell for it at a gunshow).
  11. School me on the Martini Henry

Their sister store in NY got their firearms it's https://www.ima-usa.com/
  12. Anyone have a clue on this one

I'm no expert, but there is some rough hand filing marks on the metal, and the letters on "TOWER" look wrong (looks like a D and E are over stamped), it's likely a Khyber Pass copy of a British percussion pistol probably not very old but still a cool handmade piece (I wouldn't shoot it)
  13. My Snider Enfield .577 Warning, Picture Heavy!

Haven't shot these rounds yet (I will this coming week). The rounds I shot with the Minie balls a little while back were pretty accurate. This is the Minie ball target. My brother shot the top left and I shot the center, not sure who got the flyer, but the bottom picture is the center target...
  14. My Snider Enfield .577 Warning, Picture Heavy!

Not a bad Idea especially for the packing. Unfortunately Id have to carve the dowel into a pipe shape in it to do the primers though, as these cases are a balloon head type with the primer pocket protruding into the case like a little hill in the center. I may try to make some kind of...
  15. My Snider Enfield .577 Warning, Picture Heavy!

http://www.enfield-snider.com/Snider.htm This website has a bunch of info on Sniders it's like drinking from a fire hose.
  16. My Snider Enfield .577 Warning, Picture Heavy!

The first Sniders (the Mk1's) were converted. The Mk II's like mine have the locking latch, these were purpose built as cartridge guns.
  17. My Snider Enfield .577 Warning, Picture Heavy!

Thanks, its actually not so bad on recoil. Id say its about like a 20 guage with slugs.
  18. My Snider Enfield .577 Warning, Picture Heavy!

I used a smaller brass case to slightly bell the case mouth by putting it in the case and running it around at an angle (not pictured as it was too blurry). I greased the bullet (in this case a solid based R.E.A.L bullet) then with some pressure (and/or light taps with a non marring hammer)...
  19. My Snider Enfield .577 Warning, Picture Heavy!

I charged the case with 70 Gr of Pyrodex RS, and made an attempt to settle the charge by tapping it repeatadly on a hard object, I then placed the wads in the case and sent them home with the pipe, compressing the load.
